Go the distance with a removable battery

Traditional power assist devices often feature non-removable batteries, limiting your range and freedom while requiring downtime when the batteries need to be replaced. The R90's standard battery has a range of up to 9.8 miles*, and the extended battery has a range of up to 19.5 miles*. Take a second battery with you to go even further. Remove the battery to lighten the R90 when carrying or transporting it.

The standard battery (2.5 Ah) meets current regulations to be carried on a plane (always verify with your airline for current regulations).

* Range is dependent on the ground surface, the weight of the user, driving behavior, temperature, and terrain.

Wheel up function

No need to be a drag

When the R90 is not needed, raise the wheel for zero rolling resistance. This can be done with a button on the Control Box or from the Sunrise Intelligence app. Even though the R90 is easy to remove, you can just raise the wheel and keep it on your chair all day long.

Set your speed for any situation – dialed down in a crowded store or ramped up to keep up with your dog. You have a maximum speed of 5.5 mph!
To get moving, simply press the plus (+) button. Or, you can propel to the speed you want and press the plus (+) button to maintain it, like cruise control.

Bluetooth

The Control Box connects to the R90 via Bluetooth^®, so there aren't any cables to get in your way. Regardless of your location and movements, Bluetooth stays reliably connected. The Control Box can be quickly removed to help with transfers or to avoid damage during air travel.

V-LOCK

Simple, secure attachment

The patent-pending V-LOCK^™ is a tapered latch that securely docks the R90 to the receiver on the chair. Combined with the ergonomic, easy-grasp handle; upright orientation; and rolling tire, the R90 can be attached by many people while they are seated in their chair.

Drive performance

The compact design of the R90 offers great handling, agile turning, and stability. The R90 was designed for uncompromising performance, extended range, and ease of use, so riders can commute to work or school (without arriving sweaty), run errands, or take longer trips.

Center spin

The R90 drive wheel is positioned under your seat. This means you can maneuver forward, backward, and 360° with minimal drag or hang-up. In tight spaces, move as you normally do. Getting into and out of tight spaces is just as easy with the R90 mounted, raised, or removed, as it doesn't extend beyond your rear wheels. The center spin of the tire allows for precision turning. No fishtailing, no rear bounce. It moves like it's a part of you.
One-hand speed control

To maintain your speed, go faster, or slow down, simply push a button on the easy-to-access Control Box. This frees up one of your hands for more important things, like coffee.

Compatibility

The Empulse R90 is compatible with most rigid and folding wheelchairs. The reciever brackets don't interfere with chair components, and still allow folding chairs to fold.

For rigid chairs, the receiver bracket mounts directly to the camber tube and can remain in place, whether the R90 is on or off your chair.

Sunrise Intelligence App

Use the app during the initial setup of the R90 to optimize its performance to the rider's weight and wheelchair. The R90 App allows you to select the performance profile and maximum speed that best suits your environment, whether you are indoors or outside. The preset drive profiles are tailored for specific environments for speed, torque, and slope thresholds.

The app shows battery charge, so you always know when you need to recharge. You can raise or lower the R90's wheel and check the position of the wheel from the app. Historical data is shown in a dashboard so you can track your maximum speed and distance. The app is compatible with Android^™ and Apple^® iOS.

How can I transport the Empulse R90 in a car?

Your push device has not been designed for transportation in a vehicle. When transporting in a vehicle, you must separate the push device from the wheelchair. The Empulse R90 can be easily detached from or attached to a manual wheelchair thanks to the patent-pending V-Lock receiver clamp. In combination with the very compact design and the light transport weight of 13.0 lbs (5.9 kg), the Empulse R90 can be transported easily in the travel bag supplied with the device.

Where can I drive the Empulse R90?

The electric push device Empulse R90 is a versatile and very maneuverable add-on device that facilitates an intelligent assisted drive and is intended for indoor and outdoor usage. It is designed for use on various terrains, but the level of effectiveness may vary. The Empulse R90 has excellent maneuverability as it sits under your wheelchair in the same footprint, meaning the size and turning circle of the wheelchair remain the same. You can select indoor or outdoor performance profiles with the Empulse R90 app.

How fast can I go with the Empulse R90?

Drive smart with the extra power unit for your wheelchair!

Maximum speed forward is 8.9 kph (5.5 mph).

Using the Empulse R90 with maximum speed settings higher than 6 kph (3.7 mph) is only permitted on public roads in certain countries and otherwise may only be used on private property.

In the absence of approval (attached to the Order Form and must be signed before ordering), in accordance with the road traffic laws, the Empulse R90 with speed >6 kph may not be driven on public roads, bicycle-lanes, and pavements. You need to inform yourself about the country-specific legislation regarding usage and it is your legal obligation to ensure the Empulse R90 speed can be set up higher than 6 kph. When you're traveling with your Empulse R90, always check the specific legislation in the respective country.

How far can I go with the Empulse R90?

Standard battery: up to 9.8 miles (15.7 km)
Extended range battery: up to 19.5 miles (31.4 km)

Range is dependent on the ground surface, the weight of the user, driving behavior, temperature, and terrain.

How do you store the battery correctly (e.g. over winter)?

Store the battery in a dry, cool place at around 50° F (10° C) to 77° F (25° C). It is recommended to keep the battery at a state of charge of approximately 75%. If it is stored for too long with low charge, the voltage inside drops significantly and a deep discharge can occur, which could permanently damage the battery. Therefore, charge the battery every 12 weeks when stored.
